Who is ‘Protanica’?

• We are a cricket protein, Cricket Flour, Cricket insect powder manufacturer based in Thailand.

• We want to make this world a little less hungry and a little more sustainable through the practice of ‘Entomophagy’.

What is ‘Entomophagy’?

• Entomophagy is the technical term for eating insects. Humans have harvested the eggs, larvae, pupae and adults of certain insect species from forests or other suitable habitats to eat for thousands of years. Nowadays, there are over 2,000 edible insect species that are regularly consumed worldwide.

• Crickets as food are an excellent source of proteins, vitamins, fats, and essential minerals. Cricket protein production is far less environmentally damaging than other forms of protein production. 

Where do our crickets come from?

• Our crickets are raised in our contracted farms in Thailand with GAP (Good Agricultural Practice), accreditation to control the quality standard from farm to finished product as well as research and development of our production in the special laboratory, for the finest cricket protein powder.

How do you control the quality of the crickets?

• We have a world class ‘Supplier Audit Program’ for every contracted farm in our ‘Protanica Approved Vendor List’ to ensure consistent quality. The finest end product starts with well raised livestock.

Does your process comply with animal welfare?

• Our crickets are harvested near the end of their natural lifespan in a humane way by putting them into a sleep at below-zero temperatures. 

 

How do you make cricket powder?

• We use a proprietary method of processing the harvested crickets into the finest quality powder. The end result of our process leaves nothing added and nothing removed from the original whole cricket, including a complete amino acid profile.

 

Are crickets ‘vegan or vegetarian friendly’?

• For those who are ‘vegan’ to avoid eating meat, crickets could be considered as another alternative source of protein. Most scientists agree that crickets do not feel pain or experience the world in a way that would be familiar to us, and this serves to ease the minds of those who refrain from consuming meat out of concern for animal welfare.
